7th ROUND FIM MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MX2 – AGUEDA – PORTUGAL
SUBERB MAX ANSTIE 4th IN GRAND PRIX OF PORTUGAL MX2 !
For the 7th round of the World Championship held in Agueda, Portugal, the british Max ANSTIE of the Honda Gariboldi-Esta team on his performant CRF250R showed that he has the speed and the ability to stay regularly with the top 3 of the MX2 championship riding an impressive second moto where he started 7th and could pass all riders in front of him and finish 3rd behind Herlings and Searle for an overall 4th of the Grand Prix, his best so far this season. Anstie is now a solid fifth in the championship overall and is closing the gap with fourth Joel Roelants.
The russian Aleksandr TONKOV after breaking his elbow six weeks ago, tried again after the come back in France last week, to race in Portugal but his arm was just not ready to bear two days racing and despite the pain TONKOV rode on the Qualifying practice of the Saturday and on the first race on Sunday but was forced to abandon just after mid race.
“I’m really delighted for the 3rd place finish of Max in the second race, he really deserved this result and convince everybody that he could be a regular contender for the podium, he is such a talented and hardwork rider!. Unfortunately Max couldn’t focus completely on racing in the last GP’s because we had to work and test really a lot in the past four weeks with all the development we are doing on the CRF with Martin, GET, Akrapovic and Kayaba who made available for the first time in Europe a full factory Air fork with a totally new technology which worked really great on this very bumpy track in Agueda. I also wish to spend a word on Tonkov who showed really a lot of courage to race just after five weeks from his injury, he will be back soon at top level as he showed in the first part of the season.” commented Team manager Giacomo Gariboldi.
