FIM MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND #3 – THE NETHERLANDS

PHILIPPAERTS’ POTENTIAL DOESN’T REAP THE REWARD IN THE NETHERLANDS

The Motocross World Championship was coming back to Europe for the third round of the season and the frost has dominated the racing weekend after the warm Thailand weather !

David PHILIPPAERTS started very well his dutch GP with a 9th place in the qualifying race of the sunday on his improved CRF450R Pro Circuit, leaving behind him the likes of top riders Frossard, Searle, Nagl and Goncalves. In race #1 DP19 did not have the best start and could manage to pass the first turn around the thirteenth position and with and aggressive ride got passed some riders in front to reach the british rider Tommy Searle and pass him for the 9th overall place when the group of the leaders was already too far to be approached. In race #2 DP19 took a great start in second position just behind factory rider Bobryshev and could manage to ride the first four laps battling with De Dycker and Cairoli but suddenly he experienced problems with his clutch register and had to slow down and retire, a shame because he could not score heavy points for the overall.

Harri KULLAS was struggling all weekend with his form and could not show his speed on this sandy track which he really appreciates. Two bad starts on both races have influenced his results finishing 19th and 14th which absolutely do not correspond to his talent. In the next GP’s everybody expect to see the real Kullas on the CRF250R !

The positive note in the MX2 contest came from the GP debut of youngster Vseva BRYLYAKOV who scored his first 2 points by finishing 19th in the second race of the day after a DNF in the first. Brylyakov is set to take part at the European championship starting in Portugal in May and this was a good way of training for the 17 years old !

Giacomo Gariboldi: Gariboldi Honda Team Owner:

“We definitely are not lucky this beginning of the year and wasted a great opportunity in the second race with DP19 but at least we know that we can be up there with the best in the MX1 class! I was pleased by the second race of the young russian Brylyakov and I believe that working hard with him we may have in the coming years another Bobryshev for Honda. Regarding the MX2, we absolutely need that Kullas finds back his riding skill and manages to carry the CRF250 where it should be, but I’m confident that he will alert his pride soon.”
